New Guy from Texas

Postby Heightsbear » Fri Nov 15, 2019 12:49 pm

Hello, I’m a 56 year old retired soldier with prostate cancer. I have a date with the robot next month. I’ve never had issues (well not often) getting hard and reaching climax. My surgeon believes he will be able to spare my nerves but I guess that remains to be seen. He told me that he was going to put me on low dose viagra post surgery to maintain blood flow. Anyone else gone through this?

Hi Heightsbear,

Yes I did. My Dr gave me pre surgery Viagra and after surgery, cath removed and a second or third visit was given Viagra and told to get to work masturbating in hot shower often. Its a bit difficult because you will be leaking urine for a bit, Depends then pads as you get back control of your bladder. The Uro will then start you on either a vacuum pump or injections. My advise, search for a uro who specializes in sexual function for your recovery. My uro surgeon was a wealth of disinformation (I learned later) and he was the head uro in the hospital system and was at Johns Hopkins and worked on the Robotic procedure from its start.

You can private message me any time if you like. I went through it all and am happy to answer questions where I can and speak to my experience. You will find Frank Talk a wealth of information

Keep us informed and best wishes

Welcome to the forum.

Yep, been there, done that! Start doing kegel exercises immediately. I'm not a doctor so ask your doctor first, but otherwise start immediately.

There is no reason not to be completely optimistic about the whole affair. Cure rates for that cancer are now very good. As for whether or not your dick work afterwards? I'll forecast that initially, no it won't. Thus the viagra to help with blood flow while you heal. Also ask about a VED (penis pump) for therapy while healing. Although you won't be healed enough for using one for awhile. Full recovery of function, which we hope is in your future, is unlikely to be immediate.

Be patient, healing takes awhile. Recovery from the incontinence may also take awhile. Don't get discouraged (start those kegels). How well your erectile function will return is unpredictable. Full recovery of function might be rapid but probably not. Full recovery could very easily take many months. Again, don't get discouraged. Yeah it might not ever recover. That would suck but that's why we're here. There are solutions in that worst case scenario which we hope you don't experience.

Good luck on your journey.

Central Texas here. Retired Army guy. 40 mi W of Ft Hood.

Can't comment on the cancer from personal experience (others in family, yes) but can elaborate on most ED treatments since I've tried them all, and the only one left to try is next on my list of things to do.

Best wishes to you on a full and complete recovery, and a rapid one too. If you need to talk to a fellow Army guy pm me any time.

Heightsbear: BTDT I Live in Clear lake. Send me a PM with a phone number, of facetime or Sype. I think a conversation would be more informative than a bunch of emails. If you are in or near Houston, maybe we could have lunch.
