Hello to All - Any organ transplant patients dealing with ED here?

Transplant patients are prescribed a lot of drugs to prevent us from rejecting the organs we receive, several of which cause or contribute to ED including steroids in particular. Other side effects of transplant meds include medication induced diabetes (which I have), and also high blood pressure. Triple whammy.

I'm wondering if there are any TX patients here who can share experiences and possible solutions?

I'm already seeing a Urologist who prescribed Androgel 1.62% as well as sildenafil without much success and a'm trying a vacuum assist device with some success and wondering what to try next.

I'm 64 years of age and in otherwise good health.

Not a transplant patient here, but my husband may possibly be looking at a lung transplant. (We've begun very initial steps toward it. His lungs were destroyed by chemo infusion for Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2008. He has "Bleomycin Induced Lung Damage.") However, we're both HIV-positive and a lot of the side effects you've described are the same things one or the other of us has experienced also. My husband (Jim) had medication-induced diabetes for years; was on various forms of insulin and Metformin. A major medication switch finally undid the diabetes. (Now he only experiences temporary diabetes with his roughly every-two-months hospital admissions when they give him IV steroids to clear out his lungs.)

But what caught my eye most in your post, Hiram, was the mention of AndroGel not working. Both Jim and I had been on AndroGel for years with great success. But it suddenly stopped working. What we learned was that if a guy doesn't have enough subcutaneous fat, there's a good chance that AndroGel isn't going to get properly absorbed. Also, other brand gels (for example, Testim or Axiron) are NOT all bioequivalent. So, while AndroGel no longer works for you, something such as Testim may very well work. A simple switch in brand of gel may solve your problem.

Personally, I honestly prefer doing testosterone injections. They do more for me than AndroGel ever did.

And as far as wanting to hear from someone in TX, we're not. We're in the suburbs of Philadelphia. But, Jim was living in Houston when we met 17 years ago and moved here so maybe that counts!

I hope some of this helps.

Colin (and Jim)

Good morning Colin;
I used Androgel for one year and it did NOTHING for me. When I started self injecting 2.5mg Delatestryl every 3 weeks I noticed a HUGE difference after only the second injection. I love that stuff. :)
