Hello from NJ

Postby Surfshack » Thu Sep 23, 2021 11:42 am

I am new here. Hello. I have joined because i had a Prostiva surgery done on my prostate because the urologist i went to said i had an enlarged prostate. I went ahead and had the surgery done without a second opinion which was a mistake. I asked all kinds of questions and the urologist assured me that i wouldn't have any sexual side effects. That was untrue. I now have a smaller flaccid penis, I cannot get fully erect, I do not get aroused as easy anymore, my ejaculate is maybe 50-60% of what it used to be. It feels like my sexual function on a whole has lost 50% of what it used to be. My penis feels like a hollow and weak version of what it used to be. After the surgery I went to a urologist at the Univ. of Penn in Philadelphia and he examined my ultrasound results and said that i should have not had the Prostiva surgery done. My prostate was not enlarged it was just inflamed. He said all i needed was Pelvic Floor therapy and massage to reduce the inflammation. I am so pissed at this idiot urologist who recommended this Prostiva surgery. I was naive and did not realize the consequences.
I am 54 yrs old , in good shape and single and i don't even engage with females anymore, it has really put me in a predicament. I am now thinking that at some point I might have to get a penile implant just so i can have sex to pleasure a female so i can get back in the game of life and feel like a man again.
I just wanted to say Hello , it feels good that at least i can connect with the guys here. I know a lot of us are going through our own issues with sexual health. It sucks doesn't it? But at least I'm alive and i can walk and talk and exercise and be active.
55 yrs old. Prostiva procedure (enlarged prostate surgery) June 2019. Also hard flaccid issues. Working thru it (massage/yoga/exercise) and getting better and more mentally positive. Still experiencing ED, hate pills but i'm gonna figure out a way.

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you appear to have bad medical advice resulting in an unnecessary surgery and you're now having these difficulties. I hope and pray you find satisfactory answers to your problems. Good luck on your journey.

What did the urologist at the Univ. of Penn in Philadelphia suggest should be your next course of action?
R.R.P 2011 Mayo Jacksonville, Dr. Michael Wehle. Nerve sparing - badly damaged. C in margin. V.E.D, Viagra and PGE-1 (80mcg/ml) injections @ ~ 14 units. Originally Edex20, then compounded PGE-1 - cost. Inject. 10+ yrs. It works. Treasure coast of FL.

Hello! The urologist I chose at Univ. of Penn. ordered me to have Pelvic Floor Therapy and Massage then referred me to a General urologist physician in the Urology Dept. to follow up with. (The urologist i initially chose was a Reproductive Endocrinologist, but he was excellent). The Pelvic Floor Therapist was excellent. After 12 visits it relieved most of my pain from the inflammation, the rest of the pain just gradually healed and felt better. So that was what was needed NOT surgery. I am still upset over it. I actually went back to the urologist who did the Prostiva surgery and i told him what the urologist at Penn said. He said well according to your ultrasound it did show a slight enlargement and you had trouble urinating. I said well you should be educated and wise enough to know that surgery should have been a lot resort if needed. He told me that's why we tried alpha-blocker medication first and you didn't respond to that so the next step was surgery. I was so pissed. I said well from what i know now Prostiva surgery is kinda primitive , Why didn't you suggest a Urolift? He said because your insurance didn't cover Urolift. I said Oh so that's why you went with Prostiva??? I was so pissed. He then told me to hang in there, you are still healing give it time. I was like whatever , What if i shove a heated needle up your dick , burn your prostate and then tell you to hang in there.
So anyway, I followed up with with my General urologist at Penn. And he told me I know your upset, you just have to give it time. That's basically all we can do now. The main thing is that you have been relieved of the pain and you are urinating normally. There is hope that your erections may come back, we have to give it two years. Then he prescribed me some generic Cialis which i got but i've only used it once. It worked somewhat but I don't like it.
It's been two years since the Prostiva surgery and it hasn't really gotten any better. My orgasms are not the same anymore. Erections are not as strong anymore and my glans feels weak and not as sensitive anymore. So i am weighing my options about where to go from here. I want to be sure that my prostate is healed completely before even thinking about an implant. If i consider that route I have insurance and I think that would make an appointment with Dr. Eid in New York.
We'll see what happens. I'm not looking forward to dealing with the surgery but we only live once and you gotta deal with what you got and make it fun.
