3 year update - Pros and Cons of implants

Postby NickNickNick » Tue Nov 28, 2017 10:30 pm

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to give an almost 3 year update, share my pros and cons of getting an implant

My current age: 34
Medications/"Solutions" tried (prior to implant): pills, shots, pumps, urethral suppositories
Doctor: Edward Karpman
Implant: AMS 700 LGX

My Pros:
I can finally have sex whenever I want, for as long as I want
Gave me my life back, restored confidence, especially since I know I can achieve an erection whenever I want
Erection and orgasms feel great, implant can get really firm, although wife prefers that I only pump to about 80%
No more pills, shots or pumps...not that they helped me much anyways

Cons:
Knowing that your erection isn't "real". Not a deal breaker for me or my wife, but it is something to consider.
Price. Most insurance won't cover a good doctor (like Karpman), so unless you have a PPO it's going to be expensive. Although I took advantage of AMS's copay assistance discount, it ended up being close to 20k I believe.
Although it was completely worth it, I'm going to have to replace it one day, spend some more money and have to go through this all over again
Penis has a slight "oval" shape when staring at it head on, not a huge deal though
Sometimes the penis can feel a bit cold
Just the fact that you can feel the hard pump
Since I got my implant done infra pubicly, you can see a faint 1" scar, not too noticeable though

Well that's all I can think of at the moment
Feel free to ask me any questions!
Nick

thank you for your posting

I have one question: did you have an implant surgery before your marriage,
or did you get it after your marriage?

Please create a signature. It makes things much easier to answer your questions without asking a lot of questions. Here's how you do it
Click on your name in the top right corner and select "user control panel"

Then under the big letters "User Control Panel" there is a row of words... select "Profile"

Then down the left had side of the "User Control Panel" select "Edit Signature" (You might have Create Signature or something. I don't know exactly what you'll get because I already have a signature to edit)

Most guys put something like what I have, but you can put whatever you want. Here is mine -
"AMS 700 (18 + 2 rte's). Implanted March 30, 2017 by Dr. Brock of London, Ont, CANADA. Great surgeon. Went in to septic shock and had to have implant removed April 29, 2017. I'm from Belleville, Ontario, CANADA. Appt. for consult for second attempt is on November 6, 2017... I can't wait."

Don't get too carried away with the doctor like his name, address, phone number, etc (anything that looks like advertising for him).. you can certainly say Dr. Jones (great Dr.)

If you need further help, please ask, that's what I'm here for.

Does your wife think the pump is weird? Does she try to avoid your testicles?

You you get any engorgement?

Do you feel like a sexual person with the implant?

Are you able to move the implant around when having sex or does it stay firmly perpendicular to your body? For instance can you only thrust in positions where your penis is perpendicular.

Congrats on getting married! Sounds like you're a great guy. But it also sounds like your implant might be a normal thing. Did she ever find it awkward, has she ever commented that it's weird?
27
Peyronie's: 6 months, indents cause loss of 0.5 inches of girth, fibrosis growing, caused ED.
ED: 10mg Cialis daily, getting headaches, not interested in VED/injections.
Considering implant to avoid a lifetime of cialis and to correct deformity.

I'm not too fond of having my balls touched or rubbed lol, so it's not too much of an issue for us. And if we're having intercourse, she doesn't feel it. But keep in mind, if you're having sex with a woman that doesn't know about the implant, and she reaches down there, she will definitely notice and feel the pump.

Engorgement varies, depending on how turned on I am. I've always had ED so I don't know what full engorgement feels like.

Definitely... a lot more confident too

The higher you pump, the harder it is to move the implant around. Doggy style or anything behind isn't as comfortable for her as missionary/her on top, etc.... I'm not a fan of doggy style anyways, so it's not that big of deal for me.

She's had quite a few sexual partners before me, so she's familiar with how a "normal" vs implanted penis feels ;) . The only differences she's noticed between mine and others is... 1) obviously the pump, (but then again she doesn't feel it unless she grabs down there) 2) sometimes my penis gets a little cold and 3) if I pump too high, it hurts her. Other than that, she can't really tell. And as I was typing this all out, she IMed me from work that she's horny and can't wait to get home...so I guess my penis situation doesn't bother her that much ;)

That's great! Sounds like a very happy situation. I'm jealous. You've gone from bad dick situation to a happy one. I went from a happy dick situation to a bad one...

Are you not fond of having your balls touched because of the pump or just in general? Where did Karpman place your pump in your scrotum? Would Karpman have installed a Titan if you wanted?

Has the pump been uncomfortable for you?

How visible is the scar?

Did your curvature ever straighten out?

Do you think about your penis anymore or only when you're having sex? Does the implant come into your thoughts throughout the day?

How long to get from flaccid to erect for sex? Do you do this in bed with her?

Do you use it as much as you want or try not to in order to avoid needing revision?

Is doggy style uncomfortable because of the implant or just not comfortable generally?

Sorry I have so many questions. I'm in CA too and Dr Karpman is on my Aetna PPO. My peyronie's is deforming my penis with indents and my erections are unreliable/weak without cialis and I'm only 28. It's a nasty progressive disease that just keeps getting worse and the implant is the only that will stop it. Thanks for you thoughts. Your satisfaction might be different that other's because you've always had ED, but it's still very helpful. And your wife's perspective is also very helpful. I'm so happy to hear you went through implantation with her as your girlfriend and now you're married, what a success story for the implant... and you of course!

Thank you for the kind words. I don't mind answering questions, that's why I created this post :) I'll answer them one by one...

In general

Behind the testicles

I brought up titan's and he said they're great implants but mentioned something about them being too firm and they cause more axle rigidity. Not sure if he would install one or not, I just took his expert opinion

Everyone once in a while the pump bothers me, sometimes I feel it "pinching" a bit depending on how I sit, and how tight my pants/shorts are. But overall I'd say it's a minor concern

Depends on your manscaping. After I bushwhack... I can see the scar, but it's not THAT noticeable and as hair grows I can barely see it afterwards. I would prefer that the incision was done by the scrotum, but that would have delayed healing time and also I hear infra pubic is less prone to infection??

Yes, the curvature straighten out for the most part. I was a little worried right after my surgery. It was kind of my fault, Karpman got on my case cause I didn't tell him about my curvature, and he said he could fix it, but...3 weeks later it straightened out almost completely and he didn't see a need to do a follow up surgery to correct. But I do wish the head of penis pointed up higher though...oh well...next implant

I think about sex all day, so I guess the implant comes to mind often lol. It doesn't affect me getting into the mood though.

I just timed myself...took 40 seconds to pump up to 80% intercourse pump (i.e. 20 pumps). I can pump in or out of bed, doesn't matter, but I prefer to stand, not a necessity, just easier for me to grasp the pump.

We're a 3 times a week couple...but I guess the more you use it, the sooner it'll wear out. I did a hear a couple cases were they lasted 26 years, but the life span seems to be all over the place

Doggy style is more of an issue with my curvature. It hurts her a little but It's gotten better over time. Honestly and personally, I just don't like that position and it's nothing to do with the curvature.

I wish I had a ppo with aetna, at the time I had an aetna hmo and it didn't cover the surgery. I say if the drive isn't too far for you check him out if you can! He's the best implant surgeon on the westcoast. Super friendly guy, sex positive and professional.
