Actually it doesn’t baffle me. There are no doubt laws preventing medical device manufacturers from advertising.

I've never heard of any such laws... Dr. Ho has a whole show advertising his tens machine. I am going to email one of the companies and find out. :)

[quote="radioradio" If AMS and Coloplast launched ad campaigns like the ones for Viagra and Cialis it would be a different story. Why they don’t baffles me.
Bob[/quote]

The approach AMS is taking is to have urologists organize seminars at hospitals for their patients seeking ED treatment. The urologist does a talk on mainly the pills and injections and concludes with mentioning implants. Then, he introduces a guy like me with an implant to give my history of treatment and how I ended up deciding on an implant and I give an incredibly glowing review of it. According to my training literature, fully 50% of the men there never heard of an implant. The ideal end result is the urologist gets flooded with appointments to consult on an implant. I'm sure this is financially much more viable than the millions television commercials cost.

I think the answer is pretty simple:

It's major surgery. For many older gentlemen, myself included, who may be also be heart patients or diabetic, major surgery is a big deal and is often contraindicated for most anything that is not a life and death matter.

It involves using sharp tools on a man's favorite body part. That should give anyone pause.

The costs can be prohibitive, both in term of the surgery itself and recuperation time.

Many guys are embarrassed to admit they are dealing with a limp dick. While other treatments are relatively private, imagine this: "Grandpa's having surgery? What's wrong?" "He's having a penile implant." "Say what?"

Just my thoughts.

Why would anyone need to admit other than to their wife that they serme getting penile implant surgery. They can just say they are getting a hernia repair. If and when my time comes to get an implant, I will just say I'm having inguinal hernia repair.

I too knew nothing about them until my UR suggested it after everything else failed. I did have a hard time getting around the fact that they would be cutting on my dick but after so many failed attempts at having sex I finely decided that an implant is the last step in a series of things to try. If this surgery go's bad I guess there will be no more normal sex for me. BUT
I am thankful to have had a good sex life for most of my 77 years. At least I'm not at an age where it would matter to anyone else but me. I feel sorry for the guys that are so young when this happens to them.
My new sex life coming in a couple weeks. May 2nd for me. I am so looking forward to July when I can put it to the test.

I fully believe many doctors are getting kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies and it is in their best interests financially to prescribe medications rather than suggest implants. As others stated, there is a huge lack of awareness of the existence of implants. Thank God for FrankTalk and other vehicles for giving us a place to talk about them and our experiences.

Agree 1000% (no typo) but will add some heath care folks don't see ED as an illness that they should be treating. And insurance pays so little they really don't want to treat it effectively or take the time needed. My local doctors attitude was infection and size lose will happen. Kind of a so what.

I have said this before and will say it again, the decision to get an implant is huge. Each of us has to weigh and balance the pros and cons. For me there came a day when no matter how the results of an implant came out, I felt it would have to be better than have a limp dick the rest of my life. When my natural erections were gone and I had tried everything else, I was ready. I never dwelled on whether or not it would feel natural, but rather how it would allow me to once again have sex with my wife.

Again I agree 1000%. I had 0 chance before. Even the best Doctor's in the world are not perfect and there is always a chance of problems. I am not married but I so much wanted again to have a women climax with my hard penis inside her. I am not to that point yet. But even if my implant surgery fails I would have tried. It is my one and only chance.

My results impress me. I have my size back. I have more sensations than I can recall since my horny teenage years. My orgasms are back and intense. Yes, an implanted cock is not as great as a natural one, but when nature lets you down, it is a Godsend.

With coverage being so bad would you say it's impossible for a young guy to get an implant due to the potential cost of multiple revisions? Also you said infection and shortening would be a guarantee :( please elaborate

Insurance in the US is a state by state program. You can check on line to see how states rate in health care. So what happens in one state can be vastly different from other states. So cost would depend on your insurance coverage in your state or location. My insurance does cover some but not all the cost. Now your cost would depend on your insurance coverage in your state or location. That is something you would need to check on. My insurance also has the ability to chose my doctor. If I do not go to that doc they do not pay. The doctor they chose was who I paraphrased his commits on infection and size to qualify my point that some health care workers really do not think they should treat ED. He only does 2 or 3 a year. I did not go to that doctor. I would not recommend anyone went to him for an implant. He may be a fine doctor and surgeon but he gave me the feeling he didn't care much about doing an implant or not. I went to a doctor who has a low infection rate and says he will get maximum size.

So I cannot answer your first question as it depends on how much money the young guy has, where he lives, what insurance he has, the quality of surgeon, and how long the implants last. I don't think anyone can. I know how difficult this is and my advice would be to seek out a really good doctor. One who will do all the needed tests. Then make a plan with that doctor.

Best of luck to you with this. Don't give up on yourself. Please stay on this site and keep asling your questions. There are a lot of great folks that can help you with your questions much better than I can. Take care.
