Why deal with ED for this long?!

Postby Captn20 » Sun Mar 11, 2018 3:05 pm

Hello All,
I'm two years into my ED and relatively new to this forum. In a short few weeks, I'm getting my bionic penis. Reading the signatures of a good number of members, I've noticed that they went through long periods of ED (5, 10 or more years) before they opted for implant. Is there a reason for this? Am I rushing to get my implant only two years dealing with the problem?
Thanks

Everyone is different. Sometimes life just gets in the way. In my case shortly after I began to have ED problems my wife of 25 years had a car wreck and was paralyzed from the chest down. For the next 15 years my ED took a back seat to taking care of her. After she passed away a couple of years ago, I reconnected with my 1967 Prom date. We were married less than a year when we made an appointment with the Urologist. I told him we had waited all through high school, I sure didn’t want to wait any longer now.
Well I guess I do have to wait for five weeks, three days and seven more hours. But you get the point!

I think most men who waited for more than 2 years wish they had been implanted sooner.
I didn’t wait too long and made the decision with very little background knowledge, ie I wasn’t on here and didn’t watch any videos.......
I am now one very happy camper!

I did not talk to my doctor or others about my ED for a long time. Part was I was in a bad marriage when my ED started and I did not want a woman in my life. Part was I just could not talk about it. I started a little over a year ago with my PCP and that did not go well for me. I then went to a urologist last November and that did not start off well either. But with help from the great folks on this site I was able to work my way through this. Now it is easy for me. My only chance at having this part of my life back is an implant. I am scheduled to have that surgery in 10 days. I don't know what happened to me but now I can talk with others about my ED and my pending surgery.

What I read most from guys with implants is that they wish they would not have waited so long. I wish I would have started talking about my ED over 10 years ago and at the first sign of shrinkage or damage moved to implant surgery. But my insurance only covers part of the cost for this and they choose which doctor will do this if they pay part of the cost. So money is another issue with some who are dealing with ED.

If you and your doctor both believe you should have implant surgery I would not think you are rushing things.

I had ED for over 30 years. I aggressively sought help from the start. Within a month of having erection problems I was at a urologist’s office. The problem back then was lack of treatments and tests. I was asked to lay down in an exam table and was given an injection and got an erection. Therefore I was told my problem was in my head. I knew it wasn’t, but could not convince anyone. I saw doctor after doctor, new drugs came out and none worked. I would lay down and get an erection and then lose it when I rolled over to have sex or my wife started aggressively sucking me.

I trusted that doctors were doing everything they could to help me. Looking back I am sure a few were aligned with pharmaceutical companies and were more interested in writing prescriptions. I may have been naive not to do more research on my own, but I kept trying new doctors and whatever they thought might work. Thankfully, I finally went to a respected doctor who talked about the Penile Doppler test that diagnosed my Venous Leak and he said my solution would be a Penile Implant which I had never heard of before.

Once I knew the problem and solution it still took time to go through the process of getting insurance to cover it and to fit re overt into my schedule.

Thanks for your replies and helping me understand more about the urgency of getting this done. From the onset, I started different treatments (as you see in my signature). My surgeon kept saying that you'll be fine in the next few months. That did not happen. It was a shock to me coming from a fully functional guy to a complete stop with ED. Of course, different treatments helped to SOME extent. But nothing like before my prostate cancer.
I've consulted one doctor who thinks I should go ahead with this. I'll be visiting couple of other doctors whose name we see often on this forum for second and third opinion.
I'm eager to get this done asap; and now reading your replies, I'm more determined to get this problem taken care of. It's been two very difficult years for me. Thanks for your feedbacks.

I still haven't gotten it done yet because I'm going to have to pay for everything myself, that includes being able to pay my bills and stuff while I take off from work. I'm almost there and believe me that moment can't come soon enough.

And to answer your question as to why it's taking me so long, well, it's being a journey from my injury to getting medical help to finding out what options are available to just life getting in the way.

Around 20 years for me. The first few urologist I went to because of my age did not believe me. Or thought it would pass on its own. I remember I went to a urologist. The receptionist asked me why I was thier to see the Dr. I told her it was ED. She looked at me like I was nuts. Then she went over it to explain what was ED. I was trying to be quiet so others in waiting room did not hear me.
They heard her. I was called in the back to see the Dr. That woman asked me why I was thier. She did not believe me and then explained to me what ED was.
Frim look on her face she did not believe me. All Dr did waste a blood test and get paid. I went back was told it would pass. Few weeks later I went to another dr.
Lost count on how many Urologist I have seen.
I was never offered an implant.
I went to urologist after another thru the years.
Mostly I went to sane urologists, nice guy and a reputation of being a very good Dr. Then came Viagra and others.
I tried it. Failed. I was offered injections. I did not want to self-inject.
Years later I broke down and did it. It failed also. The I talked to the main urologist I used for years. I asked about the implant, he told me I would be mutilated. Told me often he has people coming in wanting to take the implant out. I think his main motivation is that it is easier and profitable to sell the injections. I go to big city for treatment. Other Dr asked me how much I paid for Tri-Mix. Being that thier is big difference in price around the country for the Bi-mix and Tri-mix I guess selling it is very profitable.
I saw this site for awhile. Then I finally joined. After that I got the name of a implant surgeon. Then other surgeons.
Thinking of getting implant. Have not done it because of the length I
have lost.

I have asked dr's about loss of length. Some think maybe you can get some lenght back others say you can not. Don't think their is enough research done in it.
Even questions if a thicker dick or a longer dick wil give a woman an orgasim.
For the woman they say the nerves are at the end so girth would be more important than lenght. You think more reaserch would be done but I guess not enough money in it.
