Sorry Larry mine surgery ended up being straight Medicare becaue of the denial

I owe the dr just over 300. I thought I put that in my first post. I had quite a shock on the denial

So, when one says they have straight Medicare it probably means only Medicare (without a secondary or supplemental plan). Once that is established the question becomes did the individual then use it to enroll in an “advantage plan”. This is Medicare only in a HMO. In that case there is usually very small copays and deductibles. If they did not enroll in an “advantage plan” they have what is considered “original Medicare”. And have at least a 20% deductible on all services. It can be even more if the doc does not accept “assignment”. Accepting “assignment” means they will charge NO MORE than the Medicare approved rate. If Theo do not accept assignment, you will be billed the 20% + the difference between the Medicare approved rate and the private pay rate—very expensive. All important to know and is explained at Medicare.gov in detail.
