more candor from the surgeon

Postby Leek65 » Wed Dec 20, 2017 11:32 am

Doctors need to be candid about what the post surgery length will be. I was never much more than 5" even in my 20's but was still close to that at 63 when my ED came with my heart medication. That was enough to keep us both happy. I was at least two years without an erection before implant surgery and as a result am now I am not even 4" even if I pump the bulb all day. Intercourse is a very frustrating experience for both of us now even 2 years post implant surgery with maybe 3" of implant and a soft glans.

The surgeon did what he could, even used the LGX stretching implant, so I am not upset with his technique. I just wish I had known all this expense and initial pain would produce such poor results. We would have skipped this and found our gratification in other ways. All he had to do when we consulted on the surgery is grab it, stretch it and put a ruler on it but I guess I could have done that too. I would have known there was no way it could come close to 5" again.

Ironically I am at least an inch longer flaccid post surgery so in the locker room I am longer and thicker post surgery but pumped up it is the opposite. I was definitely a "grower" and not a "shower" mine was really small flaccid. That has sure reversed unfortunately. Plus my bulb hangs well below both testicles so walking around in the buff is an advertisement that I have had the procedure.

I am not telling anyone to skip the procedure just be fully informed going in.
Age 68 - AMS LGX 12+2cm. Lost over an inch from pre-ED length but thicker for what it's worth (not much). ED result of heart meds.

Some surgeons will insist on taking a length measurement after an injection of tri-mix(?). That's the maximum length they could possibly guarantee after an implant.

The problem is, it depends on the assistance of the patient. Especially with the LGX, if the patient cycles vigorously at least once a day and continue to pump more pumps every time. If the patient does this, the penile tissue will stretch. If the patient does nothing, it will shrivel up. I don't get the impression that it's too late, it can never hurt to try. :)

Candor from a surgeon? Ha! You stand a better chance of a politician not lying through their teeth. I had 18 major surgeries prior to my implant. Five different surgeons now. Rarely were the potential outcomes divulged to me beforehand. This includes the guy who was gung ho to take out my sigmoid colon without remotely informing me it would be the cause of my 20 year ED struggle. I learned a long time ago you have to go in armed with YOUR questions and grill them extensively. If you're not clear on anything make them explain it until you fully get it.
Became DaveKell 2.0 on July 18th with Dr. Allen Morey in Dallas, TX. AMS 700 CX implant. 18cm with 5.5 RTE's.

Dave,

I am sorry for everything you have gone through! I do agree with you 500%. If the surgeon is not capable to handle or feels uncomfortable with your sustantive questions, and with you being an active liaison for your own health and surgery outcome, just run and never look back.

Based upon your account, it certainly sounds as though you weren't sized properly. I would respectfully suggest that you consult with an implant surgeon who does a significant number of revisions every year. Talk to Kramer or Eid and get a second/revision opinion.

What did your surgeon promise you?
I'm not sure what more candor my surgeon could provide.
He told me to stretch my flaccid wang straight out and that's how long the implant would be.
Sadly they can't reverse time like you said you get the best they can give.
I'm not sure your procedure was entirely correct if your erections is shorter than flaccid?
I didn't know that was possible. Is there excess skin that's not taut when pumped?
Did he under size you?

Best wishes to you sir!

When a guy has reached the point that he is ready for the implant he and his Dr. should be on the same playing field. As the patient you should ask repeatably about your concerns especially with what your final erect size will be. As for you Doctor he too, should have been diligent in explaining to you what your final length will be. He cannot give you an exact length, more of a estimated guess. The final outcome will be not possible until your are actually on the table. I understand you not happy with your size. It is odd that your shorter pumped up than in the flaccid state. Did you discuss with him, and did he have an answer as to why your shorter pumped up? It has been 2 years now. If you feel you need a revision, check around for surgeons. Keep in mind the Kramer and Eid are not the only 2 surgeons out there. Do your research.
Best of Luck to you.

This is a link to an abstract of a paper that directly address this topic. It appears to be a newer paper and as such it shouldn't be assumed that the information discussed in it would be common knowledge to surgeons prior to the papers publication: Preoperative counseling and expectation management for inflatable penile prosthesis implantation https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5715186/
R.R.P 2011 Mayo Jacksonville, Dr. Michael Wehle. Nerve sparing - badly damaged. C in margin. V.E.D, Viagra and PGE-1 (80mcg/ml) injections @ ~ 14 units. Originally Edex20, then compounded PGE-1 - cost. Inject. 10+ yrs. It works. Treasure coast of FL.
