Ams - what is the pop?

Postby Zxylpk » Sun Aug 20, 2017 3:35 pm

When I'm cycling sometimes I can get it to pop & sometimes not. When it pops, inflation is always much easier. When it doesn't, inflation is difficult & sometimes not even possible. Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on?

You will not get the pop (pump activation) if:
1. The last time you drain, the button isn't fully depressed.
2. Pump up a little and completely draining your implant.
If the pump isn't open, it won't pop to close the valve

The pop is the pump switching from deflate to inflate. When it pops into place the pump bulb outputs to the cylinders. When deflating it can have a buzzing effect. It things are very quiet, your partner might hear the buzz.

Haha. Last night after getting in bed I decided to pump up. When I went to deflate, our little dog in bed with us perked up her ears and started pawing at my covers. My wife turned over and asked what that noise was. I said "I think Bitsie squeaked out a long fart".

My understanding is that the mechanism that makes the "pop" happen is involved with keeping an accidental (and unwanted) inflation from happening. (I can think of many situations where I sure wouldn't want an accidental inflation to happen!)

The pop tells me my pump is working and ready for action. I love the feel.

The pop is the spool valve moving to inflate position through hydraulic pressure. Any time you are having trouble getting the pop, push on the valve as if to deflate and try again. Keep this up until you get the pop. It is sometimes hard to get the spool all the way into the deflate position. Any inflation you get without the pop is forcing liquid around the spool and very ineffective. The act of pushing on the valve helps free it up to move when you squeeze the pump.
