Implant Doc Prefers Titan Over AMS - Should I Be Concerned?

Postby alterr » Sun Jul 01, 2018 10:04 pm

An implant doc I talked to said he performs implants with Titans and not AMS implants. I told him I wanted an AMS 700 LGX to retain length and girth. He said if I wanted an AMS he can still do the procedure. But he said that AMS doesnt do as good of a job of retaining length and girth as Titan. Is this true? Should I be concerned?
ED since 1996. Peyronies in 2012. PRP in 2013 and 2017. Dr. Brock, urology, NC, USA. Cialis and Viagra stopped working since 10/2017. Haven't been on Trimix since 3/2016. Will consider injecting it again. Will be prescribed testosterone injections soon.

My doc used both. He said he liked titan for guys over 7 inch length. AMS easier to bend. AT 6 inch on me an AMS will not bend and it lays down better I am told.

I've had both. If I had to get another tomorrow, I do not want another AMS/Boston Scientific. You can read my thread [u]The imperfect implant[u] for information. I have not updated it in a year but an update I would give now that I am 16 months with this Coloplast TODAY, is that it nolonger has any puckers or dog ears, hangs well and is much more pliable than it was. The cylinders on the AMS were very soft from the start but I lost a lot of size with it and became very crooked . Your experience may vary. I've had many of an ass chewing from FT that the AMS is the best and I am tainted by it but as I said. Both have been in my dick. 1 for 13 1/2 months and this Titan for 16. I also think if the doctor is well experienced with 1, he likely knows better how to install that model as there are differences in making them fit correctly. Cheers.
LGX 21cm .Milam 01/13/16. Horror; both service and surgical outcome. hated infrapubic installation. Kramer revision 03/01/17. 22cm Titan +1.5cm extender. Those who think their opinion is the only one that matters are a danger to themselves and others.

There's a whole lot of "Ford vs. Chevy" in these endless discussions over whether AMS is better than Titan. They are both proven devices and both give good service. Every person is different and has his own unique implant experience, mostly but not universally favorable. Find the best surgeon you can and follow his advice and you'll likely do well and be happy with your outcome. There are occasional failures, and you'll have to sign a release to that effect -nothing in life is guaranteed.

My doctor used both and we discussed the pros and cons of each. He had no preference and I ended up choosing an AMS LGX. After surgery he was very happy I made that decision because it suited my particular anatomy the best. People here have had good and bad experiences with both. The problems people complain about with either brand isn’t a problem with many of the other nen who have the same model. I love mine and have no problems at all. My main concern with docs who only use one brand is I am a firm believer in the “one size doesn’t fit all” theory. There are nuances to the various brands and models that make one better for you and your situation.

I am 64 and had ED from a VL. Implanted by Dr. Ronald Anglade in Atlanta on 9/18/17. I have an AMS700LGX 21 cm via a Penoscrotal incision. Very happy with results. 6" soft and 6 3/4” x 5 5/8” hard.

My experience is very similar to greg1956. We have the same size LGX 700 implant are are about the same size inflated. Like him, I am very satisfied with mine. After two years on this forum, I believe that either on will work fine, but If I were over say 6 1/2 inches, I would go for a Titan.

Ali's experience is valuable. He is very large, and i believe that has a lot to do with his Titan preference. The stiffer cylinders on the Titan likely become more important as the length increases. Also the longer cylinders are likely easier to bend when flaccid.

I think the Titan is probably better for guys with big dicks like Alibaba. And, of course, your surgeon may need to pick one brand over another due to your individual anatomy, Peyronie's, etc. But, I don't think the surgeon should use only one brand or just pick the one he likes the best. I feel like the surgeon may convince a potential implantee into a selection prematurely. This is strictly just my opinion.

I'm a small guy (5'7"/160 lbs) and my 7" (18.4 cm) dick had shrunk to only 5" (13 cm) just before my revision. I told the surgeon who did my revision which one I thought I wanted (LGX) and we discussed the pros and cons of the LGX and the Titan while I held and manipulated working models right there in his office. I told him I could live with whatever he decided. However, I would expect an explanation regarding his choice if he decided to use the Titan. I put all this in writing and provided it to him just minutes prior to my surgery.

My circumstances may not be typical, but I wasn't happy with the decision/selection made on my first implant. I hated my Titan for many reasons. It's still too early for me to make a fair comparison to the LGX but already I've determined that, for me, some of the supposed cons of the LGX aren't accurate. I have no hinge, no wobble, same size length, a little less girth, and the pump is easier to use. It may not be as hard as the Titan but my wife didn't like that super hardness. She said it felt more like a steel rod than a normal dick. I promise you the LGX gets super hard! It's difficult to adequately explain the difference. But, the main difference (again, for me) - so far, - my dick feels more like a dick and less like a couple of stiff plastic crinkly cylinders. My wife says it's also warmer. Sex is still a week off for us so any comparisons right now are preliminary.

There are plenty of people on this site that are thrilled with their Titan. There's even a person or two, like Alibaba, who changed from the AMS to the Coloplast. I can only relate my own experience. I only had my Titan for 8 months so maybe it wasn't long enough for the cylinders to soften up and for the pump to loosen up? But, that was a really LONG 8 months! I hope I don't end up saying the same thing about the LGX 7 months from now.

Good luck with your choice.
Age 72, wife is 52. 20+1 cm Titan Touch implanted by Dr. Kramer on 18 October 2017. Revision to AMS LGX 21+2 cm on 11 June 2018 by Dr. Carrion at Tampa General. Age-related ED + slight Peyronies bend (left) and slight hourglass in the center.

I am almost 4 months with a Titian 22cm RTE 2.5. I am still questioning if the Titian was the best choice for me. I am tired of walking around with a flaccid dick that is not very flaccid. The back flow is a problem. I could almost have sex in the flaccid state. Nor do I need a dick of steel, not comfortable for my wife. I am a guy that falls into the 7 inch range, but I don’t need a dick so hard that I could spin on it like a top. That said it is not a doc issue it is a Titian issue.

Wow. It seems like theres more favoritism towards AMS ( LGX) than Titan. My uro is a spokesperson for Boston Scientific who owns AMS. I hope he doesnt favor AMS implant for me just because hes a spokesperson for the company.

I was concerned about the girth dimensions. See the attached photo:
titan diameter vs LGX diameter picture.jpeg
titan diameter vs LGX diameter picture.jpeg (65.48 KiB) Viewed 2072 times

Figure 1 (above) comparison of diameters of cylinders for different implants. The titan diameter is 21 mm and it has a girth that is "tunica limited". The AMS CX and AMS LGX have a diameter of 18 and are "mesh limited".

The advantage of the LGX is that it grows in both birth and length (but it will stop at 18 mm girth and it will stop at the lngth that your surgeon chooses)

The advantage of the Titan is that it might stretch you out more in girth during the first year (since it is probably wider than your natural girth), and also the titan is more rigid (though as some state, they might not need such a hard rod).

Personally, and perhaps wrongly, I am fixated on getting the one which is the "biggest and hardest device for sex".

Do realize, that so many on this board are quite thrilled with AMS, so maybe, this really is a discussion analogous to the "should I get a pickup truck from ford or from chevy?" debate.
