Dodged priapism

Just dodged the bullet. Priapism. 4 units of trimix and 22 units of bi-mix did not do the job last time. Bumped it up today. did not want any failure. Went to 5 units of trimix and 23 units of 30-2 bimix. Did the job nicely. BUT would not go down. Tri mix gives me extreme pain above 5 units. This time pain was a 12 with 5 units. Never again. At 2 hrs, 2 sudafed, and again at 3 1/2 hr. Cold packs from 2 hrs on. Hot bath at 4 hr. Ice pack at 4.15 and hot bath again. Finally at 4.5 hr started to get soft. Was mentally thinking which emergency room to use. Very scary. Bend to right I think is getting worse. Dr Eid here I come.

I find brisk walk up flights of stairs helps the most.

Yeah for me exercise always helped it go soft when it was just oo bitchin' hard to go down on its own. It might even come back after you stop exercise but by having it go soft even for a minute will 'reset the clock" and you have a new 4 hrs of hard to work with.

As long as boner isn't more than 8 hrs...no problem for ME. This is just MY experience, so keep that in mind.

I'll have to strongly disagree with that. IMHO (non medical professional opinion), 4 hrs is OK but at that point I want it to go away and start taking measures to make it happen pretty quickly. The smart course of action is to follow medical advice, not mine.

The problem is beyond the 4 hour mark, penile and gland tissue can be seriously damaged.

Disagree 100%. Show me any medical research that shows permanent damage with 8 hr erection.

Ok, I'm not a medical professional of any type. Please do not misconstrue anything I post as medical advice. It isn't. Consult your doctor and follow his/her advice.

In reply to rahod1,

I didn't spend much time on research, if you can call a few Google searches research. However, during my "research" I was unable to find anything definitive claiming fibrosis or necrosis occurring before 24 hours. Here's two somewhat relevant links although I'd imagine there are better ones. Both are just abstracts:

http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S1677-55382003000500002

and

http://www.jurology.com/article/S0022-5347(17)45549-2/abstract

The first one,
Priapism — etiology, pathophysiology and management
C. Van Der Horst; Henrik Stuebinger; Christoph Seif; Diethild Melchior; F.J. Martínez-Portillo; K.P. Juenemann
does contain this text:
The duration time of a normal erection before it is classifiable as priapism is still controversial. Ongoing penile erections for more than 6 hours can be classified as priapism owing to studies analyzing blood gases revealing ischemia and acidosis after 4 to 6 hours that could lead to potential damage (7,8).

That alone causes me to want to confine my erections to no more than four uninterrupted hours.

I don't know what knowledge paramedics where you are have but, where I am, it is a two year college programme where common, emergency diseases are studied down to the cellular level. Before you disagree with me, don't you think it would be a good idea to make sure I'm wrong?

Ischemic priapism can cause serious complications. The blood trapped in the penis is deprived of oxygen. When an erection lasts for too long, this oxygen-poor blood can begin to damage or destroy tissues in the penis. As a result, untreated priapism can cause erectile dysfunction.
