OK, so I gave myself my first injection of alprostadil after being instructed about how to inject which was the easy part, since I use insulin daily. giving myself a shot was not a big deal, went in just fine and easily injected the 10 units. About 5 minutes after I was getting obviuously harder and got a pretty decent erection, not rock hard but would be quite serviceable if my partner had been there!

Here is the thing though, it only lasted about 5 minutes tops and that was a real bummer to me. Office setting and the RN was going to return shortly so I wasn't going to jerk it anyway, but just 5 minutes? I'm really nervous about that and the possibility of Venous leakage. Am I being worried for nothing? Doc says to go up 5 units at a time, but with that response should I try 20?

Also, There is pain 2 hours later still, and that is kind of sucky. will the lidocaine in my actual prescription help that or is that just for less pain at time of injection?

Wife and I had sexy time a couple days ago and as usual no erection to speak of, but was able to give her plenty of Multiple O's and also give me something to look forward to finishing tomorrow night

When I was first injected at the doctors office, the doctor said that the erection would be much better in the proper setting. As for going up from 10 to 20, that might be serious overkill. I would try 15 first. As for lidocaine, from my knowledge of that drug it should work for a while.

Don't beat yourself up. You did OK for a first at-bat. My first time in the doctor's office wasn't nearly as successful. The next step for you is to simply increase your dosage. Move up in increments -- maybe go up to 15 or 20 units next time. You should see the erection last longer as you add more units. Your doctor's advice of moving up five units at a time is definitely sound, but my guess is that you're going to need a significant increase for full satisfaction.

You may find yourself needing to increase the current dosage up to 100 units for an hour-long erection. It happens. Just don't make that leap at once! Lol. At one point when I started I was injecting 120 units (yes, two needle pricks). Now I am down to 15-30 units after finding the right formula with the help of my doc.

If increasing the units doesn't do the trick your remaining option is to see your doctor for a stronger formula. Usually, the stronger the formula the fewer units you'll need. Chances are your doctor started you on a very weak starter formula that you will want to strengthen over time. I remained enthusiastic throughout my journey when I first started, but it wasn't until my urologist and I found the right formula that the good times really began. We finally found the right formula on the fourth script, and now I have a dick like a porn star. So, whatever you do, don't give up. By actively participating on this board your journey to full satisfaction will be much faster than others have experienced. Some guys get completely dialed in on the first doctor's visit. Others like me spent several months getting it right. But you will get there if you stay with it.

As for the pain, that's not unusual for the first time out. It'll get better over time. For now, try taking a couple Ibuprofen about 20 minutes before you inject. That can help. I have a pretty strong Trimix formula now and there is some ache that disappears after intercourse or oral sex begins. I will take that any day over a limp dick.

Thanks guys, that eases my mind a bit. I emailed the Dr. to find out the amount per ml or whatever but I think I saw a "40" on the scrip with 1% lido? I'm assuming that 40 is the strength and that can be increased so I would not need to take as many units?

Wife wants to know if it is date night today or tomorrow... the RN was sure to tell me 24hrs .. but damn, I waited all weekend as it is!

I'm just looking forward to a proper fucking like 10 or so years ago or more!

I can really feel your pain BUT, please do not go up too fast with the amounts or you could easily give yourself a very painful priapism that may require medical attention.

Yeah well can't afford a coed working her way through college right now so gotta take whats available!

My doc started me at 25 units which was only partially successful. Doc said to increase by 5 units on subsequent injections until I got a desired erection. This happened at 45 units. After that, I was able to slowly reduce the injection until 15 units got the job done.

What was your time frame that this happened in? weeks? months? How often were you injecting?

Last night was supposed to be the 1st time but she was not feeling well. *Grrr* Maybe tonight.. Lord knows I need it
