Why Haven't You Moved Up To An Implant?

Postby Cigar56 » Sat Oct 14, 2017 1:42 pm

I bet nearly everyone here has at least thought about getting an implant. I have been thinking about it ever since my urologist said she was confident that she could submit paperwork to have my insurance company cover it. My out of pocket would be just a few hundred dollars -- less than what I am spending on Trimix.

I admit, an implant just seems so much easier and much more convenient than sticking a needle into your dick each time you want sex. So why are we all still injecting? Here are my reasons:

-- With my wife's ultra-low sex drive an implant would be overkill for her. BUT I would be getting an implant more for me than for her.
-- Some people recover from implant surgery better than others. Some are good to go with full, pain-free sex within 30 days. Others report numbness in their penis and related discomfort for a few months.
-- Cost of the procedure is usually a showstopper unless insurance will cover, and not all plans do -- although my urologist says she has an excellent approval rate when submitting to the insurance companies.
-- It's obviously a very invasive procedure, and additional surgeries could be necessary over several years if the device malfunctions or there is an infection.
-- I struggle with what (if anything) to tell my 30-something kids before going into the surgery. There is always that one-in-a-million chance that something could go wrong during anesthesia.

What are your reasons for not moving up to an implant? I sure would like to be able to have sex on command, as much as I want. On the other hand, I am holding out because I am still perfecting injections and look forward to developing full confidence in the shots. Meanwhile, my wife is leaving it totally up to me.

What are your thoughts?
I've tried everything -- pills, injections pumps -- and now I am at the final frontier.

I haven't considered an implant, not even once.
Maybe it's because at my age, I don't know if I would go for it.
I have heard of guys in their 80s getting implanted though.
It's a hard decision to make and I don't take it lightly.
I feel that injections cost peanuts compared to what the drug companies gouge us for oral meds.
85 years
Inject testosterone weekly.
Implant on 1/22/19 by Dr Avila.
Scrotal, hor. incision just over 1"
18cm AMS 700 CX, 3.5cm RTE 100cc res
Gleason 6 prostate cancer. Monitoring it for now.
Update: On my last biopsies the cancer wasn't found.

I have a fairly generous insurance program. Medicare plus supplemental. Not sure if Medicare covers or not but supplemental would cover 80%. Accordingly, cost is not a major issue.

My concerns are the invasiveness of the procedure and recovery. I also have a low average dick size so I can't afford to loose too much length. I am currently getting good results with my VED, though orgasms are few and for between due to loss of sensitivity. However, my wife is more than satisfied with the quality and increased size of my errections.

I have considered it and won't say never.
The injections work.
I like my dick when it's boned out on an injection.
I don't want my dick to shrink.
The injections are pretty cheap.
I don't really want my dick to dominate my life any more than it already does.
I don't really want elective surgery.
I'm paranoid of hospital infections.
I'm chicken.
I have shitty insurance that wouldn't cover it.

I was your age when I had my surgery. I am now 80 and my wife is 77. We both enjoy a active sexy life for our ages. The implant is one of the best thing I ever did for our marriage. You really should consider it.

I'm new to Injections only a dozen or so and although its got it's corks for me , they get the job done.... Now I'm sure with some tweaking of my formula and dosage I can work most things out but for now I'm extremely satisfied .. No implant for me anytime soon and never even considered it .. Reasons for me .
Cost ... I'm medically uninsured
My age ... 42
Major surgery.. I'm not comfortable with any major surgery unless it's life saving
And basically just the thought of pumping up my pecker doesn't appeal to me ,,, but that's just me!

So injections are where I'm at right now and they are working and fitting in with my lifestyle at this point of my life..

ShopMan, I guess if the injections quit working, I'd have to revisit implants. Actually, I believe I could get good results with a higher dosage of Viagra, but the side effects bother me a lot. I get the stuffy nose, and a run down feeling for much of the day (we have sex in the mornings usually). My wife hated for me to play golf on days I used it, but with injections, I don't feel any different.

I think for those of us who live an active lifestyle and are in good physical shape, implants might be the way to go.
Most guys my age are dead, or as good as dead. I'll be 79 on Tuesday, so I'm older that I show lol.

I understand about guys our ages being dead or as good as. I was lucky in that I was and still am in pretty good shape for my age. Having said that if tri-mix had not quit working for me I might not have opted for the implant.
Those of us who are in better shape should feel blessed because so many men. especially. in our age group are not always. I guess I owe my health to good genes and not many bad habits. ;)
