New here need help

I just had robotic surgery for removal of my prostate 12/22/2016, they were able to save some nerves on both side. Im 62 and had some ED issues before the surgery but still was able with Ceils 2 to 3 times a week. My Dr. told me when he was closing me up I had an erection and had another that next night. I thought this would be great news moving forward. I have read lots on your site and have some questions. I was also able to have an orgasm just today

1. I ordered the Encore deluxe pump and would like to know how often to use it starting out just for therapy? Is this something I use to pump up and hold then release and do it again and not using the constriction bands? If so how long would you wait before using the bands for intercourse? I don't want to push it but I don't want to loose it either.

2. I read on here the Osborn bands are better what is the best way to determine th correct size? Should I use what comes in my kit first to get a feel what the best size is then order from Osborn? Are there sizes and tensions the same? Will they fit on the cone supplied by Encore?

thanks in advance Dennis

I definitely recommend getting the pump for penile rehabilitation. The important points are:
1. Do not use it for at least 4-8 weeks; depending on the opinion of your urologist. The urethra needs time to heal. Trust me, tearing the urethra open, with its subsequent emergency surgery and prolonged use of a catheter is not something that you would want to encounter just because you are in a hurry.
2. That being said, do not wait much longer than 8 weeks. The vacuum erection device (VED) will help maintain penile length, important blood flow to the penis and reduce scarring.

When I first started with the VED I used it 3 times a day at a regimen of 8 pumps for 30-60 seconds per pump. It seemed like that was all I did, so I changed it to twice a day after a month. I would keep it at that for a while and would not recommend going longer than once a day.

If it hurts, your pumping it too hard. But don't be too gentle. A good tug is what you want.

You do not use the constriction bands for therapy; only for sexual intercourse. The VED for intercourse did not work for me. After two years post radical robotic prostatectomy (RRP) I had an implant put in and the wife and I are quite happy.

One last thing: If you really are starting to get regular erections, you actually will not need a VED! By regular erections I mean prior to your RRP. This means most of the night and about 7 per day. If you're getting an erection once a day you still should get the VED.

Hope this helps.

More info: One thing that a rep was good enough to tell me: Keep the pubic hairs well trimmed or non-existent if you want to avoid air leakage. Also, I recall after a year I was down to about 5 times a week.

My VED was a Pos-T-Vac motorized and came with an artillery of training videos and instructions on how exactly to use it. So you most likely will also, so watch all of them.

A VED is great for generating and maintaining an erection. It also helps with rehabilitation. However, you might want to consider also using a "sex store" type pump system with a vacuum gauge. The vacuum gauge allows you to maintain the vacuum at a safe lever - not in excess of 5 in/hg. LeLuv offers a reasonably priced system.

Thanks for the advise, I forgot about having my urethra reconnected great point. So I should wait 4 to 6 weeks before using it. My surgery was Dec 22nd. My pump is an encore from a medical store and comes with a dvd. I have watched lots of videos and understand not to over do. I have been a shaver for years so nice and smooth no worries there. No regular erections had one when dr stitched me up had another that night in the hospital and one more a week ago. Now nothing just tingling is all but did have an orgasm so it still works just need it for the wife. Before surgery I could get erections not real stiff so I used ceails to help out but that did not work all the time.

So use it 3 times everyday with about 8 pumps and wait 30 to 60 seconds between pumps to start.

thank you Dennis

Seen my ero today and as you told me 6 weeks post surgery before any pumping, that puts me at Feb 6th.

thank you all and if you have any other advise I'm all ears.

I do like what others were saying about the injections that may be something in the future I may want to try

You also REALLY want to avoid hair entanglement (yours or -I have been told this is possible- hers) with the constriction ring (if you use one).

No hair to worry about, :D

Does anyone know what brand of rubber adaptor that some have that your penis goes through on the end of the tube to reduce the opening on a Encore Deluxe pump?

thanks

I pumped with a hydromax which is marketed to enlarge your penis. You use it in the shower or in a bathtub. I started using it 4 weeks post surgery used it for another 4 weeks until I got back to my followup with the surgeon and then started injecting. Injections are the way to go. The blood engorging the penis from a pump is venous so it's less oxygenated than the blood entrapped after an injection. More oxygen, better tissue health.

Go and start injecting ASAP. It's way more natural and you don't need the constriction bands which are way more painful than a small pinprick.
