Testosterone effect

Postby keysdude » Fri Jun 08, 2018 9:51 am

I've been on the shots for about two years and I feel it works great. My Dr was giving me a shot every two weeks in my butt and I could really feel the effect. However I moved and had to get a new Uro and his policy is for me to self inject in my leg every two weeks. I'm in to week 6 and I feel some effect but not as strong as getting shots in the butt. Don't know if it's a different formula or location of shot.

I think ideally the butt is a better place but lots of guys do the thigh shot. However, if you don't know what the two shots were, both dose and formula, it would be impossible to figure out the cause of the difference in effect. Not that the formula and dose would have meaning to me. It wouldn't.

I've only been on the testosterone shots for a short time. 6 weeks. My wife is in the medical field. She's a surgery technologist. Having the availability to talk to several doctors and nurses I was told that they are trying to get away from the butt shots and go to the thigh. The reason they stated was there has been a good size increase in sciatic nerve damage from hitting the nerve with the needle. The sciatic nerve placement is different from person to person. Anyway that's what I was told. I hope this helps. At least it gives you some questions to ask. Bionic Rocketman.

Just a comment. Testosterone shots every two weeks, regardless of where they are given, generally result in very high testosterone levels in the first week, that then crash downward in the following week. The result of this is wild hormone swings and other problems. When the testosterone level is high just after the shot, the body sees the high levels and converts a good amount of the testosterone (in a process called aromatization) to estrogen. This increases the risk of prostate issues like BPH and Cancer.

A far better way is to use hormone creams specially formulated to be easily absorbed by the skin. In this manner, the hormone levels can be more easily regulated for stability. An added plus, is that the user can adjust dosage for best results.

With my shots, if I gave them in the leg it hurt like hell. The butt is fine though. :)

I was on the testosterone gel for over 11 years. It was great until the gel stopped working. Now I'm giving the shots a try. So far they are great. I'll probably be on them for life. The big part is to do the blood work to keep a eye on what's going on. Had to do that with the gel also. That's the only way to make the judgements to change the dosage up or down. Some men here inject once a week or every two or three weeks. Work with your doctor and don't be afraid to ask him questions. Bionic Rocketman.

When I was doing the shots my doctor had me doing a shot every week, not every two weeks. I would think that would be better at reducing the hormone swings. My newer doctor took me off the shots. He said that because my cancer was found to be "in the"margins" when I had my RP that I'm not a candidate for the shots. My PSA has bee essentially 0 since my RP. I'd like to still be on the shots but I don't want to cause the C to come back.

Larry. When my wife gave me my shot in the leg your right it hurt like hell. After talking to one of the nurses she works with he said ( a male nurse ) that the only nurves you feel when receiving a shot is in the skin. After you go thru the skin you can gently push it in. He said to eliminate the pain at the skin pull the skin tight with your thumb and index finger and put it thru the skin quickly and that should relive some if not all the pain. The wife and I tried it on the last shot and I felt the needle more on the removal than going in. The wife only put in about a quarter inch in stopped then pushed the rest of the needle in and no pain. I have to say it worked great. It's just something to try on the leg or butt. Bionic Rocketman.

That is very interesting. With the medication I take, my first injection I gave it to myself in the thigh and the pain was incredible and lasted for almost a week. I told my doctor and he apologized that he forgot to mention that it burns like crazy in the thigh.

Wow never heard that. My medicine doesn't burn but it is on the thick side and I was told to push it in slowly. I can feel it if it is pushed to fast. I can see some real concerns if it burns and pain for a week. I would have to say that would be enough to make me a butt man. Bionic Rocketman.
