Red,
The night before the procedure I took Viagra 100mg (Note: I had excellent erection health prior to RP). After the catheter was taken out (five days after RP) I took 50mg every other day. I started to get fullness about three weeks later, and had an erection hard enough for IC about four weeks out. However, they were short lived and very "unforgiving"; the slightest wrong through would immediately cause it to disappear.
Each and every month afterwards it was getting harder and lasting longer. Now, I'm down to 25mg every other day and can get an erection hard enough for IC for 12 hours after taking the pill. However, if my wife and I are planning IC, I take 50mg as I need the extra boost to ensure it stays hard longer (I'm still having some mental challenges on the IC side). Regarding natural erections, i'm only about 25%, but have very high hopes even through I'm 14 months post RP.
Bottom line, you should challenge your doctor with questions as to how you should keep your penis tissue healthy until natural erections come back. And why not try the meds? Doctor patient relationship is a two way street. Be active in your recovery.
