New guy

Postby TheVibrator » Tue Jan 09, 2018 9:58 am

I am new to this forum. Today makes it exactly two months since I had radical prostatectomy. I have not had an erection since the surgery. My surgeon put me on Cialis about two weeks ago and I have taken about 8 pills but have not been able to get an erection. Working with my finance, I have been able to get organisms with out getting erections, something I did not know was possible. I am sixty, 6 feet tall and 193 pounds. I believe I am in excellent health. I run on the treadmill for thirty minutes five times a week and lift weights for 10 minutes 3 times a week. I am wondering weather to contact my surgeon now or keep trying until my next scheduled visit at the end of March. I am open to any suggestions or ideas. Oh, the only other medications I take are 1 baby aspirin, 1 Vitamin B12, and 1 Vitamin D daily.

Call today for a follow-up appointment. My mantra was "This is not an acceptable outcome." Feel free to use it. All the best.

I'm not a medical professional and nothing I post should be construed as medical advice. It's only my opinions based on my personal experience.

Yeah, what antelope said.

There is absolutely no need to panic at this early date but there is also absolutely nothing to be gained by delaying. I'd get a decent VED and start using it right away along with the Cialis. You want to keep the blood flowing into that thing. Plus, along with a constriction ring the VED can make playtime much more entertaining. Some guys do improve substantially in the natural erection department as much as two years after surgery so there is good reason for optimism. The bad news is that the permanent loss of natural erections is, IMHO, much more common than the doctors generally admit. Injections are also worth exploring.

Good luck. I pray you have a very satisfying recovery.

My RARP was about 2 weeks before yours so I know what you’re going through. I’ve been on sildenafil 40 mg daily since just thanksgiving. The pills won’t work for most in the early days though. They are only to help improve blood flow. My urologist told me up front not to expect natural erections for 12-18 months even with bilateral nerve sparing. You didn’t say in your intro post but was your surgeon able perform nerve sparing?

I just started trimix injections last week (see my post in the injections board). Hopefully the trimix is temporary but working great so far.

One more thing... I suggest you read “Saving Your Sex Life A Guide For Men With Prostate Cancer” by Dr. John Mulhall. There some excellent information about pills, injections and penile rehab in general.

Please create a signature. It makes things much easier to answer your questions without asking a lot of questions. Here's how you do it
Click on your name in the top right corner and select "user control panel"

Then under the big letters "User Control Panel" there is a row of words... select "Profile"

Then down the left had side of the "User Control Panel" select "Edit Signature" (You might have Create Signature or something. I don't know exactly what you'll get because I already have a signature to edit)

Most guys put something like what I have, but you can put whatever you want. Here is mine -
"AMS 700 (18 + 2 rte's). Implanted March 30, 2017 by Dr. Brock of London, Ont, CANADA. Great surgeon. Went in to septic shock and had to have implant removed April 29, 2017. I'm from Belleville, Ontario, CANADA. Appt. for consult for second attempt is on November 6, 2017... I can't wait."

Don't get too carried away with the doctor like his name, address, phone number, etc (anything that looks like advertising for him).. you can certainly say Dr. Jones (great Dr.)

If you need further help, please ask, that's what I'm here for.

I had my Prostatectomy in 2014. I don't know what is typical for a man who is able to still get erections afterwards, but in my case I got morning wood within a week. As the other guys said, I would try to see your doctor before March to express your concerns.

Best Wishes,
Greg

I don't think I have had morning wood since I was a young teenager. :(
