Hi-

I'm new to the group but saw it mentioned in a news article and wanted to join up to learn and share. First off, I'm a PhD not an MD, so many of you know more about this than I do. I have put up with varying levels of ED throughout my adult life. I discovered Viagra about 12 years ago and that changed my sex life significantly - I'd say it was about 95% effective - I was happy with the results. Then about 4 years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and for a variety of reasons I chose radiation therapy. It was completely sucessful, but I really missed ejacualtion (yes my doctor told me about it before hand) and even with Viagra, my sexual functioning - to attain and mantain erection - was significantly reduced. This is also complicated by regular use of an anti-depressant. So even with the magic blue pill, I'm still not confident and I'd say it's about 50% effective. I'm putting up with it and still trying to adjust.

That's it for now. Just thought I'd introduce myself and get active on the site.

Hey, Dr. John, did I ever tell you how much I enjoy your music, especially that great duet singing "Makin' Whoopie" with Rickie Lee Jones? How appropriate that song is for this site; it could be our theme song, as that's what all of us on here think about most of the time, making whoopie. You really are going to like this site, as you will find lots of guys who have the same problems with ED as you. In fact, I think taking antidepressants really tipped me from mild ED into the really big deal ED. Who knows; if you can deal with this ED, you might not need antidepressants anymore. It's great having you on Frank Talk--whether you can sing and play the piano or not.

Hey Littlejohn-

Thanks for the reply. You got the real connection - not MD or PhD - just kick-ass blues -I do play piano some. I've been struggling with the conflict bewteen taking ADs and having ED. First time on PAXIL, I didn't even realize what was going on - not only was it serious ED but I couldn't even get off! After I told my Doc, she switched me to PRISTIQ - better but I still think it has a side effect. Anyway, you're right - if you can cope with ED, ADs probably aren't necessary.

Thanks again, ...later,
drjohn
