Penile Implants
The Final Frontier
Both implant makers now coat their implants with an inhibit zone coating of
antibiotic which lessens the chance of infection after insertion. Current infections
rates have dropped below 1% where it used to be 2 to 3 % and resulted in the
implant having to be explanted if an infection occurred.

This topic is considerably different than all the other treaments. Every other
treatment is something you can try. If it works, great! If not, no big deal - move on to
something else. But implants are truly the final frontier, the last resort, the point of
no return. Does that sound ominous? Well, the wild thing about implants is that
guys LOVE them. The vast majority of guys wish they had not waited so long to get
theirs.

The most popular implant used now, is an
inflatable model. Basically, a pair of water
balloons replace the cavernosa in the
penis. There is a pump living in your
scrotum. You squeeze the pump to force
liquid from the reservoir that lives in your
abdomen into the pair of water balloons.
You penis gets hard. You have great sex for
as long as you want...seriously -
as long as
you want
. When you are tired of being a
stud, you release the pump, squeeze your
penis to squish all the liquid back into the
reservoir. You're done. Isn't that great?
If you have had prostate surgery, the case of the disappearing penis is gone. You can
now strut around the locker room with a slightly pumped up member that will make
you smile like "Tom" on the Enzyte commercials. Could life possibly get better?
One of the pioneers of discussing penile implants is Bob B. He is the blogger who
started http://penileimplant.blogspot.com. His blogspot began in May of 2007 and he
bravely recorded his journey, complete with photographs of his recovery after
surgery. Bob has, over the years, collected a wide range of experiences from people
all over the world. Some of them are glowing stories of rekindled romance, others
are more disillusioned accounts. Bob is quick to say that expectations need to be
clear before surgery. It is safe to say that Bob has helped thousands and thousands
of men over the last few years. He tells of getting emails every week from people
whose lives were changed by his blog. He especially has a heart for the young men
who need implants. When one of his neighbors was considering an implant, you can
imagine their surprise when some internet research turned up Bob. Well, they
talked to Bob and had a good laugh about knowing him in a whole new intimate way.
But, all joking aside, they were so grateful for his honesty and transparency that all
embarrassment dissolved in appreciation for what he had done. Bob shares his
email address and does his best to answer all email. A nomination for Saint-hood
anyone? Again, I find it fascinating that the medical establishment cannot match
the work done by the men in the trences.
The other indisputable fact in all this, is that this decision and coversation is so far
beyond the confines of any website, that there will be no hints offered, no how-to's,
no help making choices. After all, you can buy another pump or cock ring if you
chose the wrong one. A penile implant is a weightier matter! You must find a
competent, compassionate, experienced doctor and begin this discussion.
Just so you have an idea of what's going on...
There are two main implant companies in the world. The largest is American
Medical Systems
and the other is Coloplast.
AMS produces the 700 series 3 piece
implants: the CX and the LGX. The LGX
has the ability to expand in length by
approximately 18%, allowing some men to
experience an increase in length and, to
some extent, in girth. The CX is usually
applied to men who have Peyronies
disease or for men who have a thin girth
in their penis.
Coloplast manufactures the Titan
implant as their main implant. It is like
the AMS 700 CX only it is a better
implant for men who have a length
greater than 7 inches. It is slightly
thicker than the AMS implant and thus
results in better rigidity in men with a
longer penis

Malleable Rods were an early kind of penile implant.
For the most part, these are no longer used since the
improvements made in inflatable implants have
rendered the rods somewhat obsolete. Some guys did
like the rods since they were very firm and good for
penetration of just about anything. There are certainly
still cases where the malleable rod is the appropriate
choice for a man. This is all up to his doctor.
Deciding on an implant is a hugely emotional process for a guy. There is no turning
back. The decision to get an implant is a discussion between a man and his
doctor...oh, and some input from the man's partner might be considered as well! But
the vast majority of men say they did it for themselves.

We can't provide (and really just don't want to get into...) recommendations on
models or brands since these decisions are pretty much determined by penile size,
reason for ED and what a guy's penis has been through already. The doctors choose
the model that will be the most successful for the patient. What we can provide are
stories, examples and anecdotes of guys who have gone through it. If you're even
remotely thinking of getting an implant, listen to the guys who have gone before
you. There is a wealth of wisdom in their stories.
The major drawback was that the
owner had a constant erection. The
penis was just bent down when not
used for sex. It certainly must have
commanded a lot of respect in the
locker room. There are still lots of
men who have these rods and are
quite happy with them.

Some loss of length is almost inevitable, but with mental and emotional preparation,
this is not a deal breaker. Most men report that the loss is negligible. There ways to
compensate. One couple discovered that with the aid of a cock ring behind the head
of the penis, sensations were restored. Most men are only too willing to give up a
centimeter in order to have an 'on-demand' erection again!

For some men, a latent, or secondary erection is still possible. This erection is
caused by the engorgement of the Spongiosum. The Spongiosum is that tissue that
forms the glans or the head of the penis. This tissue extends down the length of the
penis - under and between the two cavernosa. We all recognize that great sight of
extreme arousal when even the glans is fully engorged. THAT was our pride and joy.
For some lucky men, this engorgement is still attained with an implant.
