“Don’t worry! You’ll have no problems. Ninety-five percent of the guys are perfectly back to normal after one year.” The Doctor stood there in his lab coat, rocking back on his heels. He made it sound like having prostate surgery could possibly be one of the biggest non-events of the decade. “Our first goal is to get the cancer out, second is continence and then we worry about ED. You’re young; you’ll have no problems at all.”
Well, so much for those predictions. A year later, after pills, pumps, and programs, blood, sweat and tears, the ED remains a mostly beaten, but stubborn adversary who still returns on occasion to prove it is not gone for good. Some days it’s almost like old times. Other times, it’s a futile attempt. So, what happened along the way? What happened to all those rosy promises from more than one urologist?
I have a friend who had surgery by the same surgeon I had, one year after mine, who had absolutely no ED. Four weeks after surgery, he was back in full…uh…blossom, so to speak. What really pissed me off, is that he isn’t even married and doesn’t plan on it. For crying out loud! What a waste of a spectacular outcome! The bottom line is; no one knows, or will probably ever know, why the same surgeon operating on two men with similar stats could produce such drastic differences.
I have often said that there is no more motivated man than a guy who wants sex. When we were young, we did all kinds of stupid things hoping to get it. Even after twenty or more years of marriage, it still ranks right up there. When it’s taken away, the frustration is very real. We’ll try anything hoping to get things to work again.
That’s what FrankTalk.org is for. Guys helping guys figure out the “how-to’s” and “where-for’s” of all the information, drugs, pumps and chemicals. There are a lot of tricks to help things along; a lot of ideas, instructions and new products on the way. The internet resources for men with ED are, I learned, limited to medical sites with lots of diagrams and explanations of why things might not work or commercial sites selling every form of potion, pump and paraphernalia to get things bigger, harder, longer, and better. There was no site dedicated solely to support for the millions of guys with ED.
The answers are out there. We just need to help each other find them.
