We had been told that it was a long process. We expected the nine months or so. But we weren’t quite prepared for the 12 month (well, 355 days) it took to get the IRS to approve us as a Public Charity under their 501c3 guidelines. But it is over! Yesterday we got our coveted letter in the mail. In fact, with government efficiency, we received two identical letters. How nice of them to provide us with a spare!
Actually, a big thanks needs to go out to our caseworker – Andrea at the IRS. She was wonderful to work with. She was a good sport about working with an ED organization. At one point in the process she asked us to “send pamphlets, press releases, articles and photographs about the foundation. Wait…on second thought, skip the photographs.”
