What they REALLY should know…

My wife sent me an article the other day. It was at Everydayhealth.com* and listed 7 myths of erectile dysfunction. It was written by Katherine Lee and medically reviewed by Cynthia Haines, MD. At first glance it looked pretty good, the usual stuff. I closed it and went on to more pressing matters. A day or two ago, I came across the email and was going to delete it when I thought I would take another look. I have eliminated the comments on the myths. The Reader’s Digest version:

7 Common ED Myths Uncovered
There are many misconceptions about erectile dysfunction and its causes.
Get the facts to straighten out any confusion about ED.

ED Myth #1: Tight Underwear Can Cause Erectile Dysfunction
ED Myth #2: ED Occurs When You’re Not Attracted to Your Partner
ED Myth #3: Erectile Dysfunction Is a Normal Part of Aging
ED Myth #4: Erectile Dysfunction Only Affects Older Men
ED Myth #5: Erectile Dysfunction Is Best Treated With Oral Medications
ED Myth #6: Erectile Dysfunction Is Only an Emotional Issue
ED Myth #7: Erectile Dysfunction Cannot Be Caused by Riding a Bicycle

Gee, what a stupid article. I know these people have to crank out articles for deadlines, but is this the best they can do when it comes to ED Myths? I then looked at the author and the doctor and realized, as my wife says, they just have the wrong plumbing. There are plenty of other ED Myths that I would like to tell people.
How about:
1. I’m the only guy I know dealing with ED.
2. With enough love, ED won’t bother you after a while.
3. There are enough other sexual activities that you don’t need an erection.
4. I don’t struggle with shame about ED.
5. I won’t get depressed about ED and let it bother me.
6. My wife is happy to just cuddle.
7. I won’t feel like an emasculated eunuch because of ED.

How are these for seven myths? From email I get and from talking to guys in the chat room, these about sum things up. Yeah, on some days, these are more or less true than others. But the fact is, these are the myths that make affect life on a day to day basis. Why don’t they write this stuff in all those women’s magazines? Cause it’s safer to talk about tight underwear and bicycle seats.

Guys, would you reply to this blog and let me know what your nominations for more myths? I know my list is not complete, but these were the first to come to mind. Let’s make a list, then I’ll write an article for one of those women’s magazines that will tell them how it really is. Guys?

  1. Sean says:

    Congratulations on the new front page! It’s beautiful!

    Myths? A few myths that we use to blame ourselves about a lot of things go for ED, too:
    1. It must be because of something I’ve done;
    2. If I just ignore it and try to chill, maybe it will go away;
    3. If I bring it up with the doc, he’s going to think I’m an idiot;

    Thanks for FrankTalk.org!
