Fixing Things

Guys need to fix things. That’s what gets us in trouble. I can’t tell you how many times I try to fix a pipe, fix my car, fix a snack and I screw it up so badly I end up calling in the pros (a plumber, a mechanic, my wife).
We also try to fix things for other people. I am a very slow learner. When my wife tells me something that is wrong or something that went badly that day, I brilliantly tell her exactly how to fix it. Gee – I think it’s perfectly wonderful advice. I don’t know why she isn’t thrilled when I tell her what to do. I will have to say, that after twenty-plus years of marriage, I now actively tell myself to shut up and just listen. When she’s done, I just hug her. I’m very proud of myself. It took only twenty years to learn that.
When it comes to ED, we have the same approach. We need to fix it. We want to know how to fix it, what tools do we need to fix it, and how long will the repairs take. I think for most of us, we can accept the fact that things are broken, but it’s the whole open-ended thing that drives us nuts. When do we see some progress? Where are the results of all our hard work? There is also the inevitable frustration that comes from when it seems that it just can’t be fixed!
I have a friend who is more than two years out of surgery with very little improvement. That’s hard enough to take, but his doctor seems perfectly content to just let nature take its course. Well, damn nature. My buddy wants to be actively fixing it. Doctors cover the whole gamut when it comes to treating ED. They all have their legitimate arguments for whatever course of treatment – or lack thereof. But the mental and emotional needs of a guy dictate that they need to feel an active part of recovery.
I’m sure there are people who doubt the use of pumps, or pills, or daily jacking-off. They probably roll their eyes at alternative therapy such as herbs, supplements or vitamins and minerals. But the fact is, men just need to feel some amount of control or involvement – no matter how marginal. We need to see that something is happening – even if it is completely manufactured.
So, guys, try it all. Get ideas from other guys on what to do and how to do it. If it hurts – quit. If it helps – great. If it just makes you feel better – best of all!
